CDR Maguire was retained by the Town of Westerly to compile and write applications for the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) and the Economic Development Assistance (EDA) Supplemental Appropriation Disaster Relief Opportunity.

The CDBG-DR grant was a compilation of the following four investments:

Housing Rehabilitation to assist homeowners with unmet needs from the flooding.

Economic Development to benefit businesses in obtaining grant funding for incurred damages and lost inventory during the March 2010 floods.

A Public Infrastructure project for a large Improvement Projects the Town had concurrently in the design phase..

A Public Infrastructure project to create a permanent access road to the Department of Public Works.

All CDBG-DR projects were required to meet the CDBG National Objectives and include pertinent data of the low to moderate income population of the area. CDR Maguire used their engineering staff to support the infrastructure projects which strengthened their validity and illustrated readiness of those projects.

CDR Maguire’s grant and engineering teams aided the Town in compiling two applications for the EDA grant. One application was for an infrastructure project and the other for a drainage study. CDR Maguire’s unique position of both Emergency Management personnel and professional engineers proved successful when the Town submitted robust applications resulting in approximately $1 Million in CDBG-DR grant dollars and $2.4 Million in award funds for their infrastructure projects. That is 85% of the estimated 4 Million dollars in total construction cost.
