RELATIONSHIPS AND COLLABORATION ARE KEY TO SUCCESSFUL DISASTER RECOVERY

Establishing the planning grounds for base camps is crucial for disaster planning and preparation, as base camps play an important role in keeping a task force operational over a period of days, weeks, and months.

CDR has developed collaborative relationships between our clients, various state agencies, and FEMA to get problems resolved rapidly and we have the resources to provide disaster recovery experts ‘boots on the ground’ immediately following a disaster to ensure operations continue as usual after disaster strikes.

2022 | Hurricane Ian

On September 28, 2022, Hurricane Ian hit the west coast of Florida as a strong Category 4 Hurricane, devastating multiple counties and severely impacting healthcare operations and hospital facilities in the area.

In just 72 hours, CDR launched a 30,000 square-foot Alternative Care Site (ACS) within the former Sears building at the Edison Mall, which was established to supplement and serve as a resource to local area hospitals and long-term care facilities, in addition to a 200 PAX base camp to house on-site staff for the Alternative Care Site.

2023 | Hurricane Idalia

On August 30, 2023, at 7:45 a.m., Hurricane Idalia made landfall near Keaton Beach, Florida as a high-end Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds near 125 mph.

On September 7, 2023, CDR Emergency Management was tasked by the Florida Division of Emergency Management to provide a 100-person base camp with wraparound services at the Sports Complex in Mayo, FL (Lafayette County) for volunteers and mutual aid crews working in response to hurricane Idalia. CDR|EM mobilized on September 8th and the basecamp became operational on September 10th.

Three weeks after operations began, due to the continuation of cleanup efforts and additional volunteers arriving in the area, the base camp capacity was expanded to 144 PAX.
