CDR Maguire was retained by Franklin County, Florida to develop a Flood Mitigation Plan (FMP) that would enhance the County’s Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) by strengthening the flood mitigation scenario. CDR Maguire provided support for this project by developing a Mitigation Capability Assessment, which analyzed vulnerability studies and risk assessments, thereby, identifying mitigation actions to reduce the County’s flood liability and increase their resiliency for any future impact.
CDR Maguire facilitated the Franklin County Flood Mitigation Task Force and engaged the public in ongoing FMP meetings to review existing flood mitigation strategies, identify flood prone and repetitive loss areas, and discuss options to mitigate future risk to the County. CDR Maguire met with various county departments to conduct the mitigation capability assessment which helped in determining what resources the county had that could help its efforts.
CDR Maguire developed a flood survey to address flood vulnerabilities within the county. The Survey encouraged participants to share their natural hazards, specific flood and drainage related experiences and offer suggested solutions to these problems.
To promote public involvement in the FMP creation process, CDR Maguire participated in Franklin County’s Disaster Preparedness Expo to directly give residents information/education on their flood risk, floodplain issues, flood insurance, and the planning process for the Flood Mitigation Assistance Plan.
